THERMAL SPRINGS in SIENA


The province of Siena is rich in thermal springs which are often overlooked, as the area is most famous for its architecture, art, history, food and wine. There is so much to choose from when visiting the area of Siena, but a day at some of the area's "terme" is a highlight that one may not want to miss.


The "Terme di Siena" are beautiful and unique, and combined with the area's favorable climate and incredible scenery, it is easy to understand why they attract so many visitors each year. The peaceful landscape and evironment enhance the beneficial effects of the waters. The "terme" also have many therapeutic and healing properties. One can choose from beauty treatments, rehabilitation and fitness, diet, and treatments for respiratory illnesses amongst many things.

Baths and spas in Italy date back to the time of the Etruscans and Romans, when thermal waters were an essential element a town. In addition to interest in Italy's spas for beauty and health care reasons, their proximity to great centers of art makes the spa resorts excellent bases for cultural excursions. There are many spas to choose from, located in Rapolano, Bagni delle Galleraie, Bagni di Petriolo, San Filippo, Vignoni, Chianciano, Montepulciano, Fonteverde and San Giovanni di Rapolano.

BAGNO VIGNONI
The town of Bagno Vignoni is located in the Orcia Valley, with a panorama of rocks and castles surrounding it. The springs of the beautiful town square, contain hot spring waters rich in sodium chloride, calcium and iron carbonates, high radioactive calcium, magnesium and sodium sulphates. It is said that St. Catherine and Lorenzo dei Medici were healed by these waters. On the edge of the town, there is a stone culvert where the hot water runs. You take off your shoes and put your feet in. After a long hike it is great. The water is very hot and full of minerals.
